If the fault is only a speaker or microphone, our standard speaker and microphone prices apply (see repair prices). Audio IC repairs are quoted after diagnosis, before any work starts.

What we check and repair

The audio IC is the chip that handles sound for calls, speaker and microphone. We rule out the simple causes first.

  • Loudspeaker, earpiece and microphones
  • Charging port flex, which carries the bottom microphone on many models
  • Audio IC and the circuit around it
  • Signs of liquid or a hard drop on the board
  • Sound on speakerphone, calls, voice memos and video
  • The price, before we repair anything

Questions people ask

Why is the speaker button greyed out on my iPhone?

A greyed-out speaker button during a call usually means the phone cannot find its audio chip. It is commonly a board-level fault, often after a drop, and it is well known on the iPhone 7 series.

Will a new speaker or microphone fix it?

Sometimes. If the speaker, earpiece or microphone is faulty, replacing it is cheaper and quicker. If the sound problem stays after that, the audio IC is the likely cause, and we repair it on the board.

Can the audio IC be repaired?

In many cases yes, by micro-soldering. If a repair is not possible we tell you plainly before you pay.

Is the earpiece or the loudspeaker the problem if I only lose sound on calls?

It can be either, or the IC. We test each one so you are quoted only for the fix that is needed.

How much does it cost?

A speaker or microphone replacement has a starting price on our repair prices page. Audio IC repair is quoted after diagnosis.
