Glass, Ceramic or Privacy? How to Choose a Screen Protector

4 min read · iPhone Doctor UG

A screen protector is the cheapest way to avoid a screen repair. The hard part is choosing, because there are many types and the names do not always say what they do. Here is a simple guide to what we sell and who each type suits.

Clear glass

Standard tempered glass with full clarity and 9H hardness. It is the everyday choice for most people and the easiest place to start. From UGX 15,000 for iPhone.

Airbag edges

Glass with shock-absorbing airbag edges, which helps when a phone lands on a corner or an edge. Clear Airbag is UGX 20,000 and Privacy Airbag is UGX 30,000.

Big curve glass

Big curve glass covers more of the screen, edge to edge. Big Curve Clear is UGX 30,000 and Big Curve Privacy is UGX 35,000. On Samsung phones with curved edges, ask about our Samsung curved glass.

Ceramic

A flexible, shatterproof ceramic film. It does not crack like glass, which suits people who want a protector that survives knocks. Ceramic Clear is UGX 25,000 and Ceramic Privacy is UGX 30,000.

Privacy

A privacy filter blocks the view from the side so only you can read the screen, which is useful on a bus, in a queue or in the office. It can make the screen look a little darker head-on, so choose clear if that bothers you.

Film

Ultra-thin plastic film is the budget option, from UGX 10,000. A matte texture film at UGX 15,000 reduces glare and fingerprints. Film protects against scratches more than against hard knocks.

How to pick

  • Just want basic protection: clear glass.
  • Often drop your phone: airbag glass or ceramic.
  • Curved-edge screen: big curve glass, or Samsung curved glass on a Galaxy.
  • Use your phone around other people: a privacy type.
  • On a small budget: clear film.

Whatever you choose, tell us your exact model so we confirm the fit before you buy. See all options on our iPhone screen protector and Android screen protector pages. If the screen is already cracked, see our screen replacement page.
